Matt Riviera and Jerry Lawler are locked in a feud that rivals the old territory days. These two have been going at each other’s throats for years now. This feud has carried over to many states and many partner promotions over the years. Most recently, Jerry Lawler beat Matt Riviera for the CWA Championship in Maumelle Arkansas. In the USA Championship Wrestling promotion, Matt Riviera has made an offer to The King to retire.

WCW Road Wild 1998 was just one of several annual showcases of just how wild World Championship Wrestling (WCW) was. In 1998 they returned to the Sturgis Rally & Races venue located in Sturgis, South Dakota. Over 8,000 people were in attendance for this event. In the main event we saw Jay Leno, former host of The Tonight Show now, team with Diamond Dallas Page. They would take on Eric Bischoff and Hollywood Hulk Hogan.

It is the Pay Per View (PPV) event that is well known for the injury to Stone Cold Steve Austin. Due to a botched piledriver delivered by Owen Hart (RIP), Austin was temporarily paralyzed. This event in general was a charged one for fans as lots of storylines hinged on the outcome of the matches. One being Bret Hart’s challenge for the top title, held by The Undertaker.

Wrestling games are quite a conundrum of gaming. Some developers get it just right while others have trouble figuring out what exactly a “squared circle” is. For the time, LJN’s WWF Royal Rumble for the Super Nintendo was better than the competition of the time. There was not much competition though. This game was released on Sega Genesis under the Flying Edge banner (another subsidiary of Acclaim). Fans wanting to relive the fun of the annual Royal Rumble event had only one way to do it. WWF Royal Rumble on Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis.
