Five Movies Wrestlers Appeared in That You Missed

Wrestling and movies have gone together for decades. This was partly spurred on by the World Wrestling Federation (now WWE). It is undeniable that Vince McMahon understood the benefits of working with the much larger Hollywood. From Wrestlemania I to today with WWE Films, the WWE athletes have crossover appeal. It is not just WWE though, there are many non-WWE athletes, many never set foot in a WWE owned ring, that have also starred in movies. The five wrestlers in this list are just a sampling of the total number that have appeared in movies. How many did you know about?

Matt Riviera Wrestler Athlete Loverboy

“The LVR Boy” Matt Riviera has announced his retirement from professional wrestling. Riviera is closing the door on a decorated career that ran over 20 years. In recent years Riviera worked a years long feud with WWE Hall of Famer Jerry “The King” Lawler. That feud ended on September 26th, 2020. The final match for “The LVR Boy” was a six-man tag bout that closed out the star studded “Jerry The King Lawler 50th Anniversary Celebration”. It took place at The Ballpark in Jackson, Tennessee.

WCW Backstage Assault N64

WCW Backstage Assault Makes Even Hardcore Fans Board on the Nintendo 64 – Today in History – December 12th, 2000

It is no secret that World Championship Wrestling (WCW) had their share of problems.  Lack of a deep locker room was not one of them.  The biggest problem that WCW faced was themselves.  They had no clear vision as to what they wanted to present fans.  The revolving door in the executive lounge was not helping either.  You would think this would be limited to the television show.  You would be wrong as WCW Backstage Assault proves that this lack of understanding the fan base reached far and wide.  WCW Backstage Assault was published by Electronic Arts, who apparently didn’t understand what a good wrestling game was either.  Wrestling has one iconic item that is shared between EVERY organization in the world.  The ring.  Too bad Backstage Assault forgot this fundamental requirement.

WCW Backstage Assault was an interesting option for wrestling fans. You would be wrong. Deep Impact Reality of Wrestling Impact CrossOver

Potential for All Elite Wrestling Crossover Event with Impact Wrestling is High

Imagine a crossover event between wrestling companies. We may be seeing the start of one. All Elite Wrestling crowned a new champion on their first episode of December for their show Wednesday Night Dynamite. At the end of the night, Don Callis left the arena with the AEW champion. When asked what was going on Callis stated all would be made clear on Tuesday night on Impact. This set the wrestling fans into a frenzy as to what that might mean. I am going to look at one potential outcome of this crossover – admittedly the most farfetched potential outcome.

NWA Starrcade 1985 The Gathering North Carolina Atlanta Georgia

NWA Starrcade 1985 Takes Place in Two Locations – North Carolina Edition – November 28th, 1985 – Today in Wrestling History

National Wrestling Alliance’s (NWA) Starrcade 1985 was one of those events that took place in two locations. This was on the same night, in two separate arenas, nowhere near each other. This is also the first live wrestling event to be broadcast from two separate locations. Do not worry, the World Wrestling Federation (WWF) would copy it for Wrestlemania 2 the following year. Not to be outdone though, the WWF would hold their event in THREE locations at once. I am going to cover the North Carolina location of Starrcade 1985 in this article.

30 Minute Midas Touch Podcast Golden Boy Greg Anthony

30 Minute Midas Touch Podcast Debuts on YouTube, More Platforms Coming

The 30 Minute Midas Touch podcast has just debuted on YouTube. The host, “Golden Boy” Greg Anthony, is old school as it gets. Greg Anthony has held probably every position you can in wrestling, in and out of the ring. He is now adding podcasting to his resume. As with all debut productions there are some rough edges but what is here is golden, if you will pardon the pun.

Survivor Series 1990 WWE PPV

Survivor Series 1990 Sees Undead Walk – November 22nd, 1990 – Today in Wrestling History

Survivor Series 1990 is an incredibly special event for fans of wrestling. Even if you are not a follower of WWE, you know who the Undertaker is. He made his WWE debut at this event in Hartford, Connecticut at the Hartford Civic Center. Undertaker was billed as the mystery partner for The Million Dollar Team, led by Ted DiBiase. I do not want to take away from the other matches on this card because it was quite a stacked event. Fans in attendance probably did not realize how special this event was though.

Zelina Vega released by WWE Twitch Onlyfans Wrestling

WWE Release Zelina Vega from Contract, More to it

Zelina Vega is one of those under the radar talents. She is not someone that had multiple championships in WWE. She is mostly known for being a manager to Andrade. Vega only recently seriously started pursuing a singles career on Smackdown on Fox on Friday nights. She is also one that hinted at support on Twitter for unionizing wrestlers. The question is, why was she released early from her contract? Especially at a time when WWE is protecting anyone and everyone they can with extended “stay at home” contracts? Was it the unionizing idea or something else?
