Charlotte Flair Born Champion Enters World – April 5th, 1986 – Today in Wrestling History

Charlotte Flair WWE Women Champion

Charlotte Flair, the daughter of Ric Flair, was born today in Charlotte North Carolina. What can be said of the daughter of The Nature Boy? Multi-time champion across NXT, Raw, and Smackdown, Flair has quickly become a cornerstone of the WWE Women’s division.

Charlotte Flair “Doing it with Flair”

Born Ashley Elizabeth Fliehr, Charlotte would begin her sports career not in the squared circle but on the volleyball court. She would bring home two NCHSAA 4 A-State championships while attending Providence High School. Charlotte would also captain the team, as well as bring home “Player of the Year” for the 2004-2005 season. She would continue volleyball athletics in college before becoming a certified personal trainer. All that before she ever set foot in the squared circle.

Earliest in-ring appearances

It is no secret that Ric Flair was in World Championship Wrestling (WCW), held that championship more than once in his career. Did you know that Charlotte appeared in WCW as well?

She did. In 2000 at the age of 14 years old.

While this was not an in-ring “competition” appearance, Charlotte was there as moral support for her father. Ric Flair was, at this time, involved in a storyline opposite son David, and Vince Russo.

She would appear again later that year in the corner of father Ric Flair. This time the match was a retirement match between Ric and his son David.

First taste of gold

Charlotte Flair would have her first reign as a champion in WWE on May 29th, 2014. On this night, Charlotte Flair would run the gauntlet in a tournament match to take the NXT Women’s Championship. She would defeat Emma, then Alexa Bliss, and finally at the NXT TakeOver event, defeating Natalya in the finals.

Since that historic night Charlotte has been able to stay in the main event no matter the brand she was on. This is an accomplishment considering how fickle wrestling fans are, how easily athletes are passed over, and how easy it is to slip and fall from grace.

Charlotte Flair has positioned herself to become a cornerstone of the WWE Women’s division. Want to grab some cool Flair merch then head over to eBay or Amazon and secure a deal.
