Shayna Baszler Punches Her Way into the World – August 8th, 1980 – Today in Wrestling History

Shayna Baszler is a cross sport star, having started her career in Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). She would see a final mixed martial arts (MMA) record of 15 wins and 11 losses. Most of those wins being via submission. She would begin her wrestling career with a loss before becoming a force in the WWE.

 

Shayna Baszler’s early days

Born in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, in 1980, Shayna Baszler would earn Alma mater at MidAmerican Nazarene University. She would gain a Khun Kru in the Muay Thai boxing association as well as professional training in MMA and wrestling.

Baszler is one athlete that knows how to use her feet and fists to her advantage in real fighting.

Her MMA career started in 2006 and featured time with promotions such as Elite XC and Strikeforce. Later she would see ring time with various promotions, most notable Invicta Fighting Championships (IFC) and UFC.

Debuting in a wrestling ring

Shayna Baszler debuted in a wrestling ring with Ring of Honor at their 13th Anniversary Show (early 2015). She accompanied reDRagon to the ring for their ROH Tag Team Championship defense.

In September of 2015, Baszler would debut in the ring with Quintessential Pro Wrestling (QPW). She would leave the ring with the loss in that debut match.

Shayna Baszler would eventually find herself in WWE’s NXT training promotion in mid-2017. While in NXT she would see NXT Women’s Championship gold on several occasions. She would see feuds with Ember Moon, Kairi Sane, and Io Shirai among many others.

In early 2020, Baszler would find herself debuting on WWE’s Monday Night Raw. She would attack Becky Lynch “biting” the back of her neck and drawing blood.

The two would face each other at WrestlMania 36 after a few weeks of buildup.

Shayna Baszler is currently active on the Monday Night Raw roster.
